Berlin, June 27, 2018 -
When waiters, bellmen, chefs and coachmen for the first time again determined the best of their guild on the Kurfürstendamm in Berlin, the future of this unusual event was uncertain. That was eight years ago when the tradition of sporting competition from the 1950s was revived. Today the Berlin waiter run has a permanent place in the event calendar of the capital, and more and more people are getting excited about the spectacle.

aims
The eighth edition will also prove the popularity of the event. "We want to build on the successes of the past few years," says center manager Alexandra Meyder-Cyrus from Apleona Real Estate, "but do not stop there. We are pursuing two goals: firstly, we want to make a contribution to further revitalizing City West and secondly secure even more attention for Kranzler Eck Berlin as a shopping location. "

program
On June 30, a total of seven races will start on Kurfürstendamm - from Kranzler Eck Berlin to the intersection of Fasanenstraße and back - at the best time to shop between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Waitresses, cooks, bartenders, bellboys, beer coaches, tenants of Kranzler Eck Berlin and waiters run. Each professional group has to master the route with the typical utensils. "Anyone who has seen before," says Alexandra Meyder-Cyrus, "how waiters skilfully try to balance a tray of drinks without loss across the course, or how bellboys can handle the ten kilograms of luggage that feels twice as heavy on the running track, who knows the exuberant mood among the audience. "

competitions
Many ambitious participants practice days before the event to successfully pass the skill tests.

  • For example, waitresses have to carry a tray with a full coffee cup with one hand, run a round at high speed, pick up a second cup and prove at the finish that the coffee foam still touches the Heimbs logo in the cup.

  • During the run, the cooks have to prepare egg snow with the whisk, which they have to dust with sugar, caramelize and decorate with fruit. Here, too, not only the way of working counts, but also the speed.

  • The bartenders are required to walk to the Fasanenstraße and back with a shaker, to take up brown rum, coconut milk and ice at the action point, to run again to the Fasanenstraße and to fill up and decorate the cocktail with cola at the finish line. Here the jury also checks the taste of the finished cocktail.

  • The bellmen struggle with a suitcase weighing ten kilos, which they carry at a rapid pace in their hands, on their shoulders or in front of their chests until they are allowed to leave their luggage in the destination area.

  • The beer coaches - everyone can participate here, of course - have to drag the full beer crate in pairs at a run. The effort is rewarded by allowing each couple to keep the box as a prize.

  • The Runners Cup is reserved for the tenants of Kranzler Eck Berlin. The tenants run three rounds and the relay is handed over after each round.

  • Finally, the waiters line up, walk to the action point with a tray, pour beer to run a round, pour a second beer and make another round. After a third beer, a check is made at the finish line to determine whether the beer is still filled to the mark in all glasses.
