More and more guests, but fewer and fewer employees: time for the 2030 host master plan!
Hamburg, December 10, 2018 - The next tourism record is imminent: For the ninth time in a row, we have had more and more overnight stays in Germany. Germany tourism is a success fairy tale - but with dark sides. More and more guests, but fewer and fewer employees ...
From January to October 2018, the number of overnight stays rose by four percent compared to the same period in the previous year to 417.0 million, Destatis said. 75.7 million overnight stays were attributable to foreign guests (+ 5%) and 341.3 million to guests from Germany (+ 4%). That means: more guests, but fewer employees! Despite more forced closing days: operators / owners in the hotel and catering trade are working to death ... The hospitality industry is therefore at a crossroads. How can further success in the out-of-home market - especially in the case of future, slower growth or even decline - be secured? The challenges are manifold: in addition to the precarious personnel situation - mostly homemade due to a lack of appreciation, poor pay, poor working time planning and generally poor industry image - there are a few fire spots to be cleared.
These are key points for the overdue # MasterplanGastgeber2030:
1. Image campaign: recruiting, employer branding
2. Deregulation: working hours, documentation, HACCP, fire protection, occupational safety
3. Taxation (VAT reduction) & public start-up support
4. Digitization & increasing efficiency
5. Waste prevention: less food waste & outer packaging
6. Energy cost reduction
Gastronomy needs more flexible working hours: up to 12 hours a day - with exceptions! Baden-Württemberg's Minister of Economic Affairs Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (CDU) wants to change the Working Hours Act and start a corresponding Federal Council initiative. Employers should be able to have their employees work up to 12 hours a day. So far, only 10 hours are allowed. #HOTELIERTV on a new political push on this hot topic: https://vimeo.com/303689256

Promotion of young talent in the #Hotellerie - finally a top priority! In hotels and restaurants, the trainee is declared a top priority, otherwise it is no longer possible to recruit enough staff. Inevitably: The hospitality industry is in a severe crisis of young people. At Dehoga Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, one wants to start an image campaign with one million euros. #HOTELIERTV reports: https://vimeo.com/304988773
